The Czech Republic has announced plans to institute programs to curb illegal workers coming from Mongolia.
The program is unusual, however, in that it will seek cooperation from the Mongolian government to prevent Mongolians from migrating to find work in Czech Republic.
Recent employment figures from the Czech Republic indicate, as of June 2007, there were 7,515 Mongolians working in the Czech Republic. Two years earlier, that figure held at 1,900.
Czech Interior Minister Ivan Langer will sponsor the program which seeks to create ‘consultancy and support’ for those Mongolians legally entering the Czech Republic and also offer assistance to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on juveniles without accompaniment.
Additionally, the Interior Ministry will use the program to reduce the abuse of migrants coming to work in the Czech Republic by offering a true picture of employment opportunities in the Czech labor market.
The Czech Republic has similar programs operating in Moldova, Armenia and the Ukraine.
